Junqueiro President at Save Mart

Save Mart Stores said last week that Steve Junqueiro, chief operating officer of the firm since last May, has added the title of president. That position had been vacant since Bob Spengler retired as president last January. Bob Piccinini remains chairman and chief executive officer. Save Mart operates 245 stores in California and northern Nevada.

MODESTO, Calif. — Save Mart Stores here said last week that Steve Junqueiro, chief operating officer of the firm since last May, has added the title of president. That position had been vacant since Bob Spengler retired as president last January. Bob Piccinini remains chairman and chief executive officer. Save Mart operates 245 stores in California and northern Nevada. Junqueiro, 53, has been with Save Mart since 1974, starting as a produce clerk and moving up through the ranks before being named corporate vice president, operations, in 2004, and then executive vice president in early 2007.

FORMER SENIOR VP MOTLEY LEAVES FMI

ARLINGTON, Va. — John J. Motley III has left Food Marketing Institute here, the association confirmed last week. Motley had been senior vice president of government and public affairs at the trade group. His departure follows that of two other FMI senior vice presidents: Karen Brown, who said last year she planned to retire as of Jan. 1; and Brian Tully, who resigned last September.

GIANT-CARLISLE PROMOTES STERNBERGER

CARLISLE, Pa. — Giant Food Stores here announced last week the promotion of Doug Sternberger to director of operations and merchandising for Giant-Carlisle's newly formed District 15 in the company's East Region, reporting to Mike Baumeister, regional vice president. Sternberger joined the company in 1980; he most recently was a grocery specialist for the East Region.
