The brochure contains information about safety and nutrition, trivia and moments in "hot dog cultural history."

Pete Marigliano, manager of public affairs for AMI, said the brochure is not a response to recent news reports that hot dogs could represent a link to leukemia in children.

He said the brochure was released this month, because August is National Hot Dog Month. "This is something we had going anyway," said Marigliano.

Chicken to Get 'Smart Meal' Drive

WASHINGTON -- The National Broiler Council here will promote chicken as "America's Smart Meal" during National Chicken Month in September.

The theme focuses on chicken's economic value, versatility, nutrition and convenience, according to the NBC.

This is the sixth year for the event. The NBC said designating September as National Chicken Month extends summer grilling and other chicken meals well into the fall.

Star Serves Up Entrees for Two

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Star Markets here has introduced a new entree program called Table for Two.

The retailer's Aug. 14 ad circular said the entrees, which serve two, cook in less than 10 minutes, include premium quality ingredients and come in seven different varieties. They have a price tag of $6.99 for a 24-ounce package.

The packaged entrees are sold in the fresh meat case, according to a source at a Boston unit of Star Market.

The line includes beef Francais with linguine, Italian sausage with linguine, chicken Coronado with rice, Oriental beef and vegetables with rice, Santa Fe-style chicken with rice, chicken Italiano with vegetables, linguine and ham, and shrimp and sausage jambalaya.

The retailer's parent, American Stores, Salt Lake City, recently signed a definitive agreement to sell the 33-unit chain to an investor group.

Star Market officials could not be reached for comment.
