SAN JOSE, Calif. -- DVDPlay, a provider of DVD rental kiosks to supermarkets and other locations, said yesterday it has rented more than 6 million movies and deployed over 1,000 machines. The kiosks have been placed in major grocery chains, convenience stores, military bases and a variety of other retail locations, the company said. Supermarket chains include Safeway, Kroger, Albertsons and Piggly Wiggly. DVDPlay offers new releases and top hit movie rental for $1.49 and 99 cents each extra day. First-time users receive free one-day rental with promotion code. “The ability to rent new-release movies for just $1.49 for the first night with no late fees, at stores where consumers shop everyday, is transforming the market," said Chuck Berger, chairman and chief executive officer, DVDPlay. "Six million movie rentals is a significant market share to capture in a highly competitive environment."
