CHARLESTON, S.C. — Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. has launched Newton Farms, a private-label line comprising small batch specialties.
Many of the made-to-order products are locally produced, including Creole-style Lowcountry Sauce from Awenday, S.C.; honey produced by a local beekeeper in Orangeburg, S.C.; and frozen pastas from Rio Bertolini’s, handmade by a Charleston chef who supplies local restaurants.
More than 100 Newton Farms products are in stores now and dozens more are in the works, including all-natural meats and cheeses to be introduced later this summer. “Every Newton Farms food is a labor of love,” said Gregg Byrd, supermarket brands general manager at Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co., in a statement.
