Price Chopper Supermarkets is getting into the specialty pharmacy space as part of a partnership with Aureus Health Services, a specialty pharmacy and health management company.
Specialty pharmacies cater to patients taking medications that can be complex to administer, are costly and/or require special storage or handling, according to Price Chopper, based in Schenectady, N.Y. Chronic diseases treated with these drugs include rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis and Crohn’s disease.
“This partnership between Price Chopper Supermarkets and Aureus Health Services is certain to be a success, given our combined commitment to providing patients with a more convenient and personalized option to treat their chronic and complex health conditions,” said Kathy Bryant, Price Chopper’s VP of pharmacy, in a media statement.
