Instacart delivery expands at Hy-Vee

Midwestern chain pushes ahead with rollout of online grocery service

This week, more Hy-Vee stores will be launching same-day grocery delivery through Instacart.

San Francisco-based Instacart said its online grocery delivery service will become available on Aug. 23 from Hy-Vee stores in Muscatine, Ford Madison, Ottumwa, Spencer and Mason City-Clear Lake, Iowa.

The expansion follows an eight-market rollout last week with Hy-Vee in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Waterloo, Sioux City and Dubuque, Iowa; Sioux Falls, S.D.; Springfield, Mo.; and Manhattan, Kan.

Customers access the Instacart home delivery service at Instacart.com/Hy-Vee or through the Instacart app, fill a virtual cart with groceries and then select a delivery time, which can be in as soon as an hour. Instacart personal shoppers pick the items at Hy-Vee stores and deliver the orders to customers’ doors.

Hy-Vee announced its partnership with Instacart in July, and the companies said the initial coverage area would reach 20 markets.

The West Des Moines, Iowa-based grocer also offers its own shopping service, dubbed Hy-Vee Aisles Online, but has teamed up with Instacart and Target Corp.-owned Shipt to provide expanded delivery areas and same-day delivery.

Overall, Hy-Vee operates 245 stores in eight Midwestern states. Instacart, which partners with more than 200 North American grocery retailers, now serves over 280 markets and aims to serve 80% of households in North America by the end of 2018.
