CARLISLE, Pa. — A spokeswoman for Ahold USA told SN on Tuesday that there was no truth to a report out of The Netherlands this week that the company was considering reducing the number of banner names in the U.S.
The report, appearing in the Dutch newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad and picked up by some international news outlets, is “completely false,” Tracy Pawelski said. The newspaper said that Ahold was considering getting rid of some brand names to give the Ahold name a greater presence.
Ahold operates stores under the Giant, Martin’s and Stop & Shop names in the U.S., in addition to the Peapod online grocery service.
