ARLINGTON, Va. — The National Grocers Association here said it has presented the Spirit of America Award to Rep. John Kline, R-Minn., for his "outstanding advocacy and commitment to small businesses."
"Congressman Kline has been dedicated to making sure community-focused grocery retailers and wholesalers serve as a keystone in our free enterprise system," said Peter J. Larkin, NGA president and chief executive officer. "Our industry is grateful for his commitment to federal fiscal responsibility that ensures a level playing field for employees and employers."

Kline has been in the House of Representatives for 10 years, including two years as chairman of the House Education and Workforce Committee.
NGA's Spirit of America Award has been given to more than 550 individuals since it was established in 1982 to honor key industry and community figures who provide leadership in community services and government relations on behalf of a free and independent food distribution system.
