ROSEVILLE, Calif. — United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 8-Golden State here said it has established informational picket lines at four newly opened Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market locations in Northern and Central California.
The stores are located in Modesto, Lincoln, Granite Bay and Sacramento. Jacques Loveall, president of the local, said the union is asking consumers not to shop at the stores, saying Wal-Mart provides sub-standard wages and benefits to the employees.
"Our members are prepared to do whatever it takes to ensure workers [there] have the same access to the good pay, health care, pensions and job security provisions enjoyed by union members," he said.
Through its YourBreadAndButter.com campaign, the union is also continuing with informational picket lines at stores operated by Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market, Trader Joe's, Nugget Market, Whole Foods, WinCo Foods, Vallarta and Target.
