Whole Foods Helps Kids Eat Smarter as They Head Back to School

hole Foods Market is hoping to fortify the brain power of kids, tweens, teens and college students with nutritional brochures and podcasts as they head back to school this season.

AUSTIN, Texas — Whole Foods Market here is hoping to fortify the brain power of kids, tweens, teens and college students with nutritional brochures and podcasts as they head back to school this season. In addition to advice on eating healthy at snack time, and during breakfast, lunch and dinner, the K-12 and college student back-to-school brochures contain coupons good for more than $55 in savings. They’ll be distributed in Whole Foods stores through August and September.

The retailer’s Back to School podcast, accessible on its website, features tips and recipe ideas to help parents keep their kids healthy and productive during the school year, while the Back to College podcast includes interviews with college students about eating healthy on campus. “Substantial whole-grain cereals such as oatmeal or muesli make great choices for breakfast, since they provide a sustained release of energy until lunchtime,” advises Jody Villecco, food and nutrition quality standards coordinator for Whole Foods Market, in the back-to-school guide. “Also, look for cereals with added nuts or seeds to sneak in even more protein.”
