The new Bashas’ Diné Market takes the place of this City Market, which has operated in Shiprock, N.M., since 1986.
Workers began removing the City Market branding after the store officially closed on Monday, July 19.
By Wednesday morning, July 21, Bashas’ Diné Market was officially open for business.
New self-checkout stations have been installed in the store.
Setting up the produce department for opening day is Bashas’ Melissa Barela.
New Bashas’ employees, many of whom worked at City Market previously, are trained in meat prep and stocking.
Preparing for opening day included stocking the freezer cases.
Prepared foods are back and ready for business at Bashas’ Diné Market’s deli, as well as sandwiches, meats and cheeses.
Fresh bakery is also back at the new Bashas’ Diné Market.
Bashas’ has hired a majority of the City Market associates who worked at the now-closed store to. (Some City Market employees will be transferred to other locations.) The new Bashas’ Diné Market will employ approximately 50 people.
