Weis Markets on Monday held grand opening festivities at a new store in Flanders, N.J.
The store is the fifth New Jersey location for the Sunbury, Pa.-based retailer and its 166th overall. The 58,500-square-foot store is located in Sutton Plaza shopping center, at the site of an A&P store that closed in 2011.
The store features expansive fresh departments, including a large produce department, as well as a full-service pharmacy. The grand opening ceremony included charitable donations totaling $10,000 to various community groups.
The store also features advanced refrigeration and climate control technologies designed to lessen its impact on the environment and global warming. These technologies will reduce the store’s refrigerant usage by 60% compared to a conventional supermarket, Weis said. As a result, it is expected to achieve the U.S. EPA’s GreenChill Gold-Level certification.
