BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores here said it plans to open a small-format store in May on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe.
The 5,093-square-foot store is part of a pilot program designed to provide ASU students and faculty, as well as the surrounding neighborhood, with convenient access to basic groceries, a full-service pharmacy, financial services and site-to-store delivery services, along with merchandise tailored to the campus. The store will employ 10 workers, the company said.
Wal-Mart opened its first on-campus store in early 2011 at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville.
