DENVER — The Food Marketing Institute's Energy & Technical Services Conference, one of FMI's more popular events in recent years, attracted 142 energy-management executives from food retailers and wholesalers, up from 125 last year. Overall, the conference, held Sept. 9-12 at the Marriott Denver Tech Center, had more than 500 attendees. The conference featured speakers from retail organizations as well as energy and equipment companies. It also included speakers from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, who have been updating the industry on refrigerant regulations and programs for the past few years at the conference. Attendees were also able to visit local facilities, including a Whole Foods outlet and Wal-Mart's experimental store in Aurora, Colo.
