GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Meijer here last week appointed Hank Meijer, co-chairman of the company, to the position of chief executive officer, effective immediately. He succeeds President and Chief Executive Officer Jim McClean, who has left the company to pursue other interests, the company said.

Co-chairmen Doug and Hank Meijer also appointed Paul Boyer to the position of president and chief operating officer, also effective immediately. Boyer has served in several positions at Meijer, most recently as executive vice president.
Hank Meijer said of Boyer: "Paul's wide-ranging experience with this company for the past 32 years will provide the leadership and direction that will continue to strengthen our position within the industry."
As part of the revised leadership structure, longtime company Chairman Fred Meijer, 82, most recently senior chairman, will become chairman emeritus.
