AUGUSTA, Maine — A Hannaford Bros. store here that was supposed to be closed for Christmas opened to provide food for local workers who were seeking to restore power to the storm-ravaged region, Hannaford said.

In a post on its Facebook page, Hannaford, a division of Salisbury, N.C.-based Delhaize America, thanked two of its managers — husband and wife Melissa and Phil Zayac — for volunteering to open the store. The Central Maine Power workers were able to get food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with the help of a local chef, who also volunteered, Hannaford said.

“Our thanks to Melissa, Phil and other associates who worked behind the scenes to make this happen on the holiday, so Hannaford could play a part in helping our neighbors,” Hannaford posted on its Facebook page.
