Tops launches pharmacy specialty program

The new services will include medications that can be difficult to administer

Tops Friendly Markets has launched a new pharmacy program that caters to customers who need access to specialty medications that require stricter treatment, storage, and handling, the grocer announced Thursday.

The Williamsville, N.Y.-based grocer, which runs 148 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont, will roll out the Tops Markets Specialty Pharmacy Program across the chain.

The new services will include medications that can be difficult to administer, according to the company.

“Chronic diseases are typically treated with specialty medications and can include rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, hepatitis, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, and Crohn’s disease,” the company said.

Other services offered through the program include providing educational material, helping patients develop a personalized clinical care plan, coordinating insurance benefits, ensuring continuous patient care, and helping patients navigate financial assistance.
