SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — A month after launching Health Tours designed to give Michigan shoppers free access to doctors and other medical experts, family-owned Hiller's Market is considering tours for high blood pressure sufferers, cancer patients and those training for athletic events.

The outreach program kicked off in July with a nut-free store tour. It drew so much attention that a second nut-free tour was added.

“The nut allergy tour was extremely successful,” Hiller's spokeswoman Alison Schwartz told SN. “People are desperate for knowledge.”

Last week's Feeding Baby Tour, which focused on appropriate cereals, fruits and vegetables for baby, drew fewer shoppers, with just two attending. Schwartz speculates the poor showing had more to do with parents' schedules than interest in the topic.

Hiller's will schedule future Feeding Baby Tours for an earlier time of day.

“Perhaps that would be better for moms with young babies since it doesn't interfere with bath time or bedtime,” Schwartz said.

Although few made it to the store, the event was a success since participants shared one-on-one time with the hosts, pediatrician Dr. Daniel Schnaar and registered dietitian Julie Feldman.

“When babies start solid foods, it's a learning experience for both them and their parents,” said Dr. Schnaar, in a statement. “I'm happy to help parents have a healthy and developmentally appropriate approach to infant feeding.”
