CHICAGO -- The Greater Chicago Food Depository said it has launched its annual holiday greeting card program, whose proceeds will provide meals for hungry people through the holiday season and year-round.

According to a depository spokeswoman, each $17 donation enables the agency to provide food for 68 meals. She said $9 of each $17 donation is tax-deductible.
The depository is a nonprofit food distribution center that accepts donations from supermarkets, food-service outlets and other sources. It said it expects to distribute 1.9 million pounds of food this year.
