PARSIPPANY, N.J. — Kings Food Markets celebrated a grand reopening of its Maplewood, N.J., store last week, with a "pasta" ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by demos and samplings in the store.
The 25-unit chain expanded its produce, dairy and frozen food departments at the Maplewood location as part of a redo in keeping with its rebranding effort, officials said.
“This is a 40-year-old store in a wonderful community, and we wanted to make sure we’re really serving the needs of our guests here,” Judy Spires, Kings’ president and CEO, told SN.
The expanded departments, with the installation of new fixturing, now have 20% more display space to show off added variety.
“In produce, we have a huge selection of organics,” Spires said, “and a new display for our 24/7 program. That’s in its second year, and doing great … we have more farmers participating.”
In the 24/7 program, local farmers deliver fresh produce to Kings’ stores within 24 hours of harvest, seven days a week.
New design features at the Maplewood store include larger front windows, providing a better view of the store’s interior.
“That brings us closer to the community. We want to give our customers an intimate shopping experience,” Spires said.
