Central Market Expands Kit Kitchen Concept

SAN ANTONIO — H-E-B Central Market’s Houston store is home to the retailer’s second Kit Kitchen, a station that stocks prepped ingredients and recipes for restaurant-quality meals.

Shoppers who use the Kit Kitchen first choose what kind of meal they want to make by selecting one of many free recipe cards stocked at the station. They then follow purchase the kits specified on the card. The kits contain all the necessary precut and pre-measured ingredients for the recipe.

The shopper then assembles the meal at home based on the instruction on the recipe card. “It couldn’t be simpler to create delicious dishes like Kung Pao chicken or shrimp, vegetarian chili, chicken and Thai green curry with shrimp,” according to Central Market.
Chef-prepared Asian, Mediterranean and Italian kits are among the offerings. Shoppers can select a “ready-to-cook” kit that contains all the necessary ingredients or a “create-your-own” kit in which they can mix and match the different kits to compose a signature dish.

The first Kit Kitchen opened last year in Central Market’s Dallas store.
