CHARLOTTE — Harris Teeter Supermarkets has withdrawn a letter of intent to locate a new store in Newark, Del., city officials said.
According to a social media post by Newark Mayor Vance Funk, Harris Teeter had expressed interest in locating at the Newark Shopping Center contingent upon certain road improvements and completion of a market study. Funk said one obstacle was an inability to obtain or transfer a liquor license from a neighboring store in the same shopping center.
Harris Teeter operates one other store in Delaware, in Bethany Beach. A Newark site would be the northernmost of the company’s more than 200 stores.
