Supermarkets — and their shoppers — were preparing for heavy snow storms expected to dump more than a foot of snow over the Northeast Monday and Tuesday. For supermarkets, the threat of snow often means a spike in sales, although that can be offset by closures once the snow arrives. On Monday several turned to social media to get the word out:
Fairway Market made sure shoppers knew it stores would open early:

By morning, there were lines outside its Upper West Side location:
