WESTBURY, N.Y. — Union workers at King Kullen stores on Long Island have agreed to a two-week contract extension with the retailer to allow contract talks to continue, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1500 here said Wednesday.
The extension covers more than 2,400 workers until midnight, Dec. 21.
“In the last two negotiation sessions we’ve made steady progress, especially in the areas of pension and welfare. This two-week extension demonstrates the good faith that has been shown throughout our negotiation process between our union and King Kullen,” Bruce W. Both, president and lead negotiator for UFCW Local 1500, said in a statement.
The collective bargaining agreement between UFCW Local 1500 and King Kullen originally expired on Sept. 28. Since then the parties have agreed to three contract extensions.
