RAIN AND OTHER BAD WEATHER conditions in coffee-producing countries has led to rising prices among the nation's top roasters.

Citing sustained increases in green coffee costs, the J. M. Smucker Co. last month increased the list price for the majority of its Folgers, Dunkin' Donuts, Millstone and Folgers Gourmet Selections coffee products by about 9%.

Also last month, Kraft Foods announced a price increase of 30 cents per pound equivalent on roast and ground coffees and 2.5 cents per ounce on instant coffees, excluding the Maxwell House International Café line.

This came after a price increase in May, when Kraft hiked prices 10 cents per pound on select roast and ground coffees.

“These pricing actions were due primarily to the increased cost of green coffee,” Kraft spokeswoman Bridget MacConnell told SN.
