Meijer Joins EPA’s GreenChill Partnership

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer Inc. here is the latest food retailer to join the Environmental Protection Agency’s GreenChill Partnership, according to the GreenChill website (

GreenChill, founded in November 2007, is a free, voluntary partnership with food retailers designed to reduce refrigerant emissions and decrease their impact on the ozone layer and climate change.

Other retailers participating in GreenChill include Target, Supervalu, Delhaize USA, Stater Bros., Publix, Raley’s, Price Chopper (Golub), King Kullen, Hy-Vee, Harris-Teeter, Giant Eagle and Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets.

GreenChill helps food retailers transition to environmentally friendlier refrigerants; lower refrigerant charge sizes and eliminate leaks; and adopt green refrigeration technologies and best environmental practices.

GreenChill's programs include the Food Retailer Corporate Emissions Reduction Program, the Store Certification Program for Advanced Refrigeration, and the Advanced Refrigeration Promotion Program.
