Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (at podium) with Jewel-Osco President Mike Withers (left) at the grand opening of Jewel-Osco’s first micro-fulfillment center (MFC), located next to its Westmont, Ill., store.

The 20,000-square-foot facility, powered by Takeoff Technologies, serves Jewel-Osco delivery and pickup customers within a 20-mile radius.

Pritzker (right) and Withers (fourth from left) participate in the ribbon-cutting for the launch of the Westmont MFC.

Robots shuttle groceries to various points to complete online orders for delivery or pickup.

Withers (second from right) accompanies Pritzker (center) on a tour of the Takeoff-driven e-commerce facility.

Jewel-Osco’s new MFC can store about 6,500 items and fill approximately 1,000 online orders per day.

Jewel-Osco associates at picking stations can fill up to four orders at a time.

Plans call for Jewel-Osco to open another Takeoff MFC in Chicago in 2022.
