Rio Ranch Offers App for In-Store Deals

FONTANA, Calif. — Rio Ranch Market here said it is launching a program Wednesday that will enable shoppers to earn cash rewards, bonuses and store extras by using a free phone application when they shop.

Using the app, shoppers can earn cash by redeeming offers from Ibotta, a Silicon Valley-based technology company, as well as offers from leading CPG companies. Rio Ranch's wholesaler, Los Angeles-based Unified Grocers, said it hopes to make the program available to other retailers.

Sue Klug, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Unified, said the technology benefits retailers, manufacturers and consumers at the same time.

According to Omar Milbis, vice president, sales and marketing, for the eight-store operator, using the app "allows us to reward shoppers and interact with customers in a fun and exciting way without the need for a loyalty card. Our shoppers simply select Ibotta offers that interest them and then purchase the product in store. Once a shopper connects with the app using a phone number, Ibotta offers can be redeemed automatically at checkout, and the cash earnings are then available for withdrawal at a shopper's convenience."
