SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Big Y is encouraging trial of its private labels with a holiday recipe challenge. All entrants must include Big Y brands and demonstrate their recipe on video.
“Charge up your camera, get your good side and have some fun,” Big Y states in promotional materials. One grand-prize winner will get $1,000, while four first-place winners will get $250 each.
Videos must show how each entrant prepares their favorite holiday recipe including Big Y private labels. All videos can be uploaded at http://www.bigy.com/video_challenge.
Throughout the entry period, registered users may visit the bigy.com and vote for their favorite entries. The five entries with the highest vote counts will qualify for judging for the grand prize. All those who vote are entered for a chance to win a $50 Big Y gift card.
The five entries will be judged on originality of recipe, ease of recipe preparation, creativity of video performance, and use of Big Y brands.
“We're looking for recipes with originality, ease of preparation and creativity, incorporating Big Y Brand products,” Big Y states.
The contest, which runs through Dec. 30, comes at a time when other retailers are running store-brand video contests. Harris Teeter, Matthews, N.C., for instance, is hosting the Harris Teeter Brands Holiday Recipe Video Challenge through Nov. 24.
To enter participants must film themselves using Harris Teeter products to prepare their favorite holiday recipe, while letting viewers know why they like cooking with Harris Teeter, H.T. Traders and/or Harris Teeter Naturals products.
Entrants will upload their videos to the Harris Teeter website and online voters will narrow the field of entrants to 20. On Dec. 1 a panel of Harris Teeter judges will select one grand-prize winner, to be awarded $2,500, and four $500 winners. Voters will also be entered into a sweepstakes to win $500 in Harris Teeter gift cards.
