NEW YORK — Members of CIES - The Food Business Forum and Global Commerce Initiative voted overwhelmingly yesterday to certify the new trade group that will replace both associations.

The new Consumer Goods Forum will seek to unit retailers and CPG companies from around the world on strategic, noncompetitive issues like food safety and security and sustainability standards.

“By coming together and having a strong voice on one target, I think we will be able to make the entire industry move faster," said Pierre-Olivier Beckers, chief executive officer of Brussels-based Delhaize Group and co-chairman of the new association. "We think that in many instances we could be part of the solution to issues that our planet is facing.”

A.G. Lafley, chairman and CEO of Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble, is the other co-chairman of the Consumer Goods Forum.
