CHICAGO — While hand and body lotion sales were up 3.3% in mass-market channels, Mintel here said in a report Thursday that most consumers using moisturizers are dissatisfied with product efficacy.

Among the complaints, 79% wish hand and body lotion lasted longer, while nearly half often feel like they still have dry skin, even right after applying the lotion. In addition, 38% of users think hand lotions are too greasy and 37% often feel like lotions leave their skin feeling sticky. All in all, some three in 10 people say they still have not found a product that works for them.

SN’s Annual Category Review, for period ending June 12, 2011, reported hand and body lotion sales up 3.3% to $995 million in food/drug and mass market channels, not including Wal-Mart Stores. Figures are compiled from SymphonyIRI, Chicago.
