JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Profits were up sharply during for Winn-Dixie during the second quarter, but sales were soft, the retailer said Wednesday.
Winn-Dixie said it reduced the promotional activity it typically engages in around the holidays and saw profits as a percentage of sales improve by 1.4% to 28.1% of sales. Net earnings of $16.1 million increased by 295.5% from the same period last year, while sales improved 0.2% to $2.3 billion. Identical-store sales also increased by 0.2%.
