Environmental Group Targets Products Made With Palm Oil

The Rainforest Action Network here plans to conduct a supermarket protest of products containing palm oil today.

SAN FRANCISCO — The Rainforest Action Network here plans to conduct a supermarket protest of products containing palm oil today. More than 2,000 participants are scheduled to apply stickers reading, “Warning! Product May Contain Rainforest Destruction,” on items that contain palm oil. The event is in response to palm oil plantations expanding into rainforests, grasslands and peat swamps in South America, Southeast Asia, the Pacific and Africa. The RAN says such expansion contributes to global climate change, species extinction, and the displacement of Indigenous and local communities. Protesters are scheduled to visit supermarkets here and in Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Austin, New York, San Antonio and other cities.
