FMI Taps Garlich for Communications

Food Marketing Institute has named Heather Garlich director of media and public relations.

ARLINGTON, Va. — Food Marketing Institute here on Wednesday said it has named Heather Garlich director of media and public relations.

Prior to joining FMI, she spent nearly four years at Porter Novelli Public Services in the food and nutrition practice, working with clients that included Welch's, Almond Board of California and Pharmavite LLC, developing business plans related to nutrition policy, food science and other matters. In addition, Garlich previously worked as the manager for member communications at the Grocery Manufacturers Association.

At FMI she reports to Susan Borra, senior vice president of communications. Garlich succeeds Kathleen Thomas, who left FMI earlier this year for another position outside the industry.

"We are pleased to welcome Heather to the FMI communications team," said Leslie G. Sarasin, president and chief executive officer of FMI, in a prepared statement. "Her wealth of experience in consumer, trade and government communications, coupled with her skills in media relations, will most decidedly enrich FMI's presence as the voice of the food retail community."
