EDINA, Minn. — Lund Food Holdings is using money and prizes to build excitement in its new “Mealtime Hero” Facebook community.

All those who shared a cooking tip on the Mealtime Hero Facebook page this past weekend were entered to win a $50 Lunds and Byerly's Gift card. Earlier this month, it had a drawing for two free Minnesota Twins tickets and an autographed baseball. To enter, Facebook fans had to click the “Like” button at the top of the Mealtime Hero page by May 5. More than 500 Facebook fans currently “Like” Mealtime Hero.

Lund describes Mealtime Hero as a place where food lovers of all cooking abilities can share their favorite cooking tips, recipes and ideas.

“They are those incredible individuals who always find a way to create delicious, high-quality meals for family and friends,” Lund writes in promotional materials. “When time is on their side, the meal might be made from scratch. When life gets busy, they might turn to some prepared foods.”

Shoppers can nominate their heroes via the dedicated Mealtime Hero Facebook page. All nominees are considered winners, and get their profile featured on the site.

Lund’s culinary experts also share tips. One such entry read, “If you're unsure about the freshness of your baking powder try this test: put one teaspoon in 1/3 cup of water. If the baking powder is fresh, the water should fizz.”

The Mealtime Hero page has its own wall and discussions board.

“Visit often as we will occasionally be providing our mealtime heroes with a chance to win a free goodie,” according to Lund.
