MINNEAPOLIS — Nash Finch Co. here yesterday said it has completed a significant expansion of one distribution center in Lima, Ohio, and it will shutter another facility in Bridgeport, Mich.

The expansion of the Lima depot, which was begun in August of last year, "effectively doubles" the freezer capacity at the facility, and will enable it to triple the volume of frozen food shipped from the location, the company said.

Customers of the Bridgeport warehouse, which has been operated by Nash Finch since 1996, will be transitioned to the Lima depot. Nash Finch said it expects to completely exit the Bridgeport facility by late September.

“I want to thank all of our associates in Bridgeport for their many years of service,” said Alec Covington, president and chief executive officer, Nash Finch. “It is never an easy decision to close a facility but in order to best serve our customers this is a necessary move.”
