HOCKESSIN, Del. — The Produce for Better Health Foundation here has launched the “MyPlate Makeover Challenge,” a Facebook contest designed to encourage people to design meals that comply with dietary guidelines outlined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s new MyPlate icon.

Those guidelines and the accompanying MyPlate icon suggest that fruits and vegetables should take up half of the plate in an ideal meal. To enter the MyPlate Makeover Challenge, participants upload snapshots of meals that meet those guidelines to PBH’s Fruits & Veggies — More Matters Facebook page. All participants receive special coupon offers and are entered into a weekly drawing to win a free $100 grocery gift card.

“The new USDA MyPlate is a wonderful way to show consumers the proportion of fruits and vegetables in relation to other foods. The Fruits & Veggies — More Matters initiative, website and Facebook page provide inspiration, tips, information and other types of support to make eating fruits and veggies come to life,” says Elizabeth Pivonka, president and chief executive officer of PBH. “We have an active group of Facebook followers who will undoubtedly provide great support, so invite family, friends and colleagues to participate!"
