PETALUMA, Calif. — A new store to be opened April 22 by Raley’s here has been awarded Gold-Level Certification by the Environmental Protection Agency’s GreenChill Partnership.

The store is the second in the U.S. to receive Gold-Level certification as part of GreenChill’s new program to recognize superior refrigeration management practices and use of green refrigeration technology. A Cub store previously received this distinction while a Whole Foods store was awarded a Silver-Level certification.

Among its refrigeration achievements, the Raley’s store is one of less than four U.S. retailers to use glycol and carbon dioxide as secondary coolants; the store also employs a dual-medium condenser.
