PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway here said Tuesday it has named Darren Singer senior vice president of pharmacy, health and wellness, with responsibility for retail pharmacy operations, specialty care, pharmacy services, compliance, benefit management and managed care.
He reports directly to Kelly Griffith, Safeway's president of merchandising.
Singer most recently was vice president of strategic growth at GlaxoSmithKline, the pharmaceutical and health-products company based in London. He spent 25 years with GSK in various leadership capacities, including vice president of marketing - OTC wellness, and president and general manager of Block Drug Co., which GSK purchased in 2001.
"We are pleased to have someone of Darren's caliber joining our executive team," said Griffith in a prepared statement. "His wealth of knowledge and proven track record in running some of the most visible and valuable brands in the pharmacy and wellness industry are well-suited to his leadership role at Safeway."
