Stop & Shop, Union to Return to Talks

QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop here and representatives of seven United Food and Commercial Workers union locals are expected to return to the bargaining table today after agreeing late last week to extend their contract by seven days.

QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop here and representatives of seven United Food and Commercial Workers union locals are expected to return to the bargaining table Tuesday after agreeing late last week to extend their contract by seven days.

UFCW locals in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut voted Sunday to authorize a strike, citing a lack of progress on issues of wages, pension and welfare in contract talks with the retailer. Their deal was to have expired Feb. 20. The unions represent more than 28,000 Stop & Shop workers in New England.
