NEW YORK — Good Housekeeping magazine named Whole Foods Market Recipes one of its “best green apps for foodies.”
The free mobile iPhone app allows shoppers to search by ingredients or dietary preference and find recipes with nutritional information and cooking instructions. It also includes a shopping list function and a locator for a nearby Whole Foods.
Other apps on the list include Locavore ($2.99; iPhone and Android), Seafood Watch (free; iPhone and Android), Dirty Dozen (free; iPhone), Label Lookup (free; iPhone) and Farmers Market Finder (free; iPhone).
According to Good Housekeeping, Locavore searches for in-season, local food by pinpointing nearby farmers' markets. Seafood Watch provides the up-to-date information about how items are fished and farmed. The Dirty Dozen app is a guide to the fruits and vegetables with the most and least pesticide residue. Label Lookup explains about 200 different label claims. Farmers Market Finder locates over 2,700 farmers' markets across the country and provides hours, days, times, contact information and types of produce, meat/poultry, plants, flowers and baked goods.
